<p>We’re looking for an <span style="font-weight: bold">Underwriter, US Property.</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">This role is a hybrid working position based in either Richmond, VA, or the greater New York/New Jersey area.  We will consider a remote US location for appropriately qualified candidates.</span></p> <p> </p> <p>We are seeking a highly motivated insurance professional for a U.S.-based hybrid or remote role reporting to the Head of U.S. Property. This individual will play a pivotal role in the development, launch, and expansion of our U.S. E&S Property portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to help build a modern, agile E&S Property platform from the ground up.</p> <p> </p> <p>This role will focus on Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines placements for Property coverages, including Critical Catastrophe exposures, for middle market and commercial entities utilizing the Hamilton Select platform.</p> <p> </p> <p>The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with wholesale brokers and clients in the U.S. This role will include business travel.<br></p> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">What you will do</span></p> <p><br></p> <ul> <li>Drive high-volume production by efficiently sourcing, triaging, and underwriting a large flow of E&S Property submissions across all risk sizes and complexities.</li> <li>Execute the full underwriting workflow, including: <ul> <li>Daily broker engagement to generate submission flow and expand trading relationships.</li> <li>Rapid triage and prioritization of incoming opportunities to focus on accounts with the highest probability of binding.</li> <li>Fast, accurate risk evaluation, applying underwriting judgment, CAT insights, and pricing tools to determine structure, attachment strategy, and terms.</li> <li>Negotiate and issue quotes using critical thinking, market awareness, and competitive positioning.</li> <li>Bind and authorize accounts within delegated underwriting authority.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Maintain a strong market presence by attending broker meetings, industry events, and conducting regular travel to key trading partners.</li> <li>Ensure underwriting discipline, adhering to guidelines, appetite, and risk-selection standards while still driving production goals.</li> <li>Strengthen and deepen broker relationships, positioning yourself as a go‑to market underwriter for E&S property opportunities.</li> <li>Help develop and refine underwriting processes, tools, and workflows to support a fast-moving, high-volume business environment.</li> <li>Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new team members as the portfolio grows.</li> </ul> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">What you require for the role</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">Key Attributes</span></p> <ul> <li>Experienced underwriter with the majority of their career in E&S Property, ideally with a mix of primary, excess, shared & layered, and quota share experience.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to produce profitable results in a fast‑paced, high‑volume underwriting environment.</li> <li>Strong technical expertise in E&S Property risk drivers, including natural catastrophe exposure, secondary modifiers, construction types, protection features, and regional market dynamics.</li> <li>Understands and is aligned with a business model focused on smaller, niche E&S risks, where speed, efficiency, and strong broker partnerships drive success.</li> <li>Established relationships within the wholesale broker community, with a proven track record of expanding and deepening trading relationships to generate consistent submission flow.</li> <li>Sound underwriting judgment, with the ability to balance objective analytics (CAT modeling, pricing tools, exposure metrics) with subjective factors (broker quality, account nuances, market intelligence).</li> <li>Ability to articulate and defend underwriting decisions, including pricing rationale, attachment strategy, and risk-selection reasoning.</li> <li>High attention to detail and strong analytical skills, with the ability to process and prioritize large volumes of submissions without sacrificing quality.</li>
