Position Summary The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating, and designing complex engineering projects in collaboration with designers and engineers, other design consultants, and clients. This role plays a key part in developing project drawings and specifications, performing engineering calculations, providing quality assurance, delivering technically sound and code-compliant design solutions, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

The Project

Manager shall be responsible for managing and executing multiple design projects simultaneously. This role requires direct involvement throughout the design process, from project kickoff through project close-out, ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and schedule requirements, while delivering exceptional client experiences.

Project

Management responsibilities include design and engineering of heating and cooling generation, water and air distribution (piping and ductwork), controls and instrumentation, with a general understanding of related disciplines such as electrical, structural, and architectural through collaboration with internal and external project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage the discipline specific scope and project execution for assigned projects. Ensure assigned projects are aligned with scope, schedule, and budget. Oversee the discipline specific design and assign tasks to Designers and Senior Designers.

Communicate with clients and external stakeholders as the primary point of contact for assigned projects for the associated discipline, including attending meetings and handling email correspondence. Develop and coordinate design solutions from concept through project close-out. Collaborate directly with engineers, designers, and other design consultants to interpret project goals and execute project requirements.

Translate project requirements into coordinated drawing packages and technical documents using AutoCAD, Revit, and related tools. Prepare written specifications to accompany project design drawings. Participate in internal and client-facing design meetings.

Contribute design insight and present solutions to complex problems. Review proposals and ensure project adherence. Ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and project budget. Prepare and coordinate project deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.

Conduct site visits to evaluate field conditions, verify design assumptions, ensure design adherence, and support project progress.

Perform quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) of design deliverables. Adhere to QAQC standards to ensure design integrity and high quality. Review and comment on professional cost estimator construction estimates at various design milestones.

Support proposal development by advising on design approach, resource needs, and level of effort. Coordinate with external consultants and vendors to integrate specifications, products, and systems into the overall design. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to design standards, templates, and best practices.

Mentor and support staff to foster technical growth and ensure consistency in design standards. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Minimum of 5-7 years design and/or engineering project management in mechanical (HVAC) building design or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit BIM software, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office software.

Strong communication and technical writing skills.

Experience in managing teams of designers and drafters.

Demonstrated ability to lead design and engineering projects and coordinate with other disciplines.

Strong understanding of applicable codes, design standards, and construction practices.
